Working with survey data from HEI Hospitality hotel workers, St. Joseph University theologian Gerald Beyer conducted an analysis of HEI’s employment practices. The analysis highlights “numerous alleged violations of many of Catholic Social Teaching norms regarding workers’ rights at several HEI hotels.” The paper goes to further conclude that “maximizing the rate of return cannot be the sole aim of an institution’s investments if it is to be true to its Catholic mission and identity.” Rather “Catholic theologians have a special obligation to promote the dignity and rights of workers in a world in which these rights are systematically denied.” Read the entire report titled, Catholic Social Teaching on Workers’ Rights and Socially Responsible Investment: A Case Study of HEI Hotel Workers, here.
