On Monday, October 15, 2o12, dozens of hotel workers and community members flooded Cambridge City Hall to urge the City Council to endorse the worker-called Le Meridien Cambridge hotel boycott. Private equity hotelier, HEI Hospitality, the owner and operator of the Le Meridien Cambridge, has come repeatedly come under fire for not allowing its workers to choose whether they want to form a union without management intimidation. Thus, workers have called on a boycott of their own hotel to urge management to agree to a fair and just process that would enable them to have a voice and respect on the job. Yesterday evening, Cambridge City Council members demonstrated their support by endorsing the boycott in an 8-0 vote.

Cambridge Vice Mayor E. Denise Simmons stated, “It’s easy to sort of cower and not stand up for your rights, hoping that everything will be okay. This is a brave step that the employees of the hotel have taken.” Read more here.
