October 18, 2012

San Diego, CA – ABC Channel 10 news reporter, Natasha Zouves goes undercover to investigate the alleged inhumane working conditions at the HEI owned and operated Marriott La Jolla. What she found was shocking. “”The doctor told me I had a high infection in my kidneys because I couldn’t go to the bathroom when I needed to,” said Neli Whatley, a Marriott La Jolla restaurant server. “We are not animals, we are humans.”  Like workers at the Le Meridien properties in San Francisco and Cambridge, Marriott La Jolla workers are fighting for a card check neutrality agreement, or in other words, a fair process that secures respect and a voice on the job. Marriott La Jolla housekeeper, Luz Oliveras reiterates what workers across the country have been saying for years about HEI Hospitality, “They don’t care about us. They just care about money.” Oliveras would inspect 25 rooms a day, but after HEI took over, that number increased to nearly 100 rooms a day. To learn more, please click here.
